Warhawk - What Can We Expect In Patch 1.4?

Dylan Jobe (Game Director for Warhawk) has hinted at some of the new features we can expect to see in the V1.4 patch of Warhawk. Firstly there will be 2 new game modes that will be playable across all levels and expansion packs:

"…right now we are spending a big chunk of our time working on our next FREE upgrade which focuses a lot on 2 new game modes that will be added to all battlefields (core & boosters)

We’ve already had some initial play tests with these new modes and they’re really fun — I can’t wait to release them in the v1.4 patch.

Also working on another feature for the v1.4 patch that I can’t really talk about now…but I will be sure to include it when we unveil the v1.4 patch"

Another possible feature for the 1.4 patch is the option to sort servers by minimum rank, thus weeding out the weak:

"we are looking to add a minimum rank option in the v1.4 patch"

There is also a good chance that the next patch will make it a bit easier to rank. With the new user created skins that are going to be added to patch 1.3, the incentive of unlocking a new warhawk skin is not as attractive as it used to be and so this would be a welcome feature for the casual player:

"We have been discussing some rank-up adjustments for v1.4"

It seems that we could also see some in-game messaging or invites:

"we are looking into messaging feature updates for our v1.4 patch"

And finally, on the topic of custom soundtracks:

"we are exploring this…"
"we are looking at in-game music but we haven’t fully green-lit the inclusion of the feature for the v1.4 patch yet. The team is still investigating it."

It's great to see such strong support for a game seven months after it was first released.
There is currently no confirmed date for the V1.4 patch, but the V1.3 patch is expected to be released on April 2nd and a new 'Booster Pack' called 'Operation Broken Mirror' is due on the PSN store on April 17th for $7.99.

The Guide to Upgrading Your PS3 Hard Drive

With recent games such as Devil May Cry 3 and Gran Turismo: Prologue requiring mandatory installs of 5-6GB, even you 80GB PS3 owners must be starting to sweat a little due to the speed you are filling up your HDD. Being the media powerhouse that it is, many PS3s are chock full of 1080P video and large music collections, not to mention the demo’s and full PSN games like Warhawk and Gran Turismo: Prologue.

Sweat no more as this easy guide will walk you step-by-step through the easy process of upgrading your PS3’s HDD.

CHOOSING THE NEW HDD

The first thing you need to do is actually purchase the new HDD and there are a couple of factors that need to be considered when doing so:

  1. The HDD must be 2.5” internal HDD and 9.5mm high, (the same type that is commonly used in laptops).
  2. It must be of the Serial ATA (SATA) format.

Taking those two points into consideration the next step is to decide how much space you want to have, suitable drives can currently go up to around 300GB in size. The standard PS3 HDD’s are 20GB, 40GB and 80GB depending on which PS3 model you have, and so most people will want a drive that is between 100GB and 300GB when they upgrade.

Another point to consider is the speed of the drive. The common speeds are 5400rpm and 7200rpm and the PS3 should not have any problems with either of those speeds. The faster 7200rpm drives will give you about 10% quicker loading times but they are more expensive that the 5400rpm drives and the difference in speed is unlikely to be that noticeable in practice.

Decide on the size of the drive first and then choose the speed that fits your budget.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE NEW DRIVE

Backup everything that is on your current HDD. The PS3 has a backup utility that will save all of your accounts and game saves onto an external HDD (or USB Memory Stick) so they can then be copied back onto the new HDD once it’s installed.

REPLACING THE HDD

Once you have bought a new HDD and backed up any data that you want to keep from the old HDD then you are ready to swap them over.

  1. The first thing to do is to turn off the PS3 and unplug it from the mains power. Then remove all of the cables from the back of the PS3
  1. Remove the HDD cover from the left side of the PS3. You may need to use a small screwdriver to pop it out, but be careful not to damage it.
  1. Use a screwdriver to remove the blue screw. Be very careful when removing screws as they are very easy to damage and doing so will cause lots of grief.
  1. Pull the handle out and then slide the HDD to the right. Then you should be able to pull the HDD out.

  1. Remove the four screws from the HDD’s metal frame. Again be very careful with these screws as they damage easily, use a screwdriver that fits well.
  1. Lift the HDD out of the metal frame and then place your new HDD into the frame and replace the four screws (they don’t need to be too tight).

  1. Insert the HDD into the PS3 and slide it to the left, then attach the blue screw (again be careful and don’t make it too tight).

  1. Put the cover back on the side of the PS3 and plug all of the cables back in.

  1. Turn on the PS3 and follow the instructions on-screen to set up your new HDD.
