PurePS3 Will Be Back Soon

The reason this site has not been updated recently is because I started University and all the hard work (and partying) left very little time for me to spend here. Also, I didn't take my PS3 with me and so I haven't yet been able to play many of last years top games such as LittlebigPlanet, Resistance 2, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, and also Killzone 2 which was released a few weeks ago.

This should change very soon however as I have now settled down at University and do have a little more time that I can devote to this site. I will also be bringing my PS3 back with me after my exams in May/June and catching up on LittleBigPlanet next week when I go home for easter.

So hopefully in the coming days and weeks I will be able to post again with some regularity.

Elefunk Guide - Part 4

Elefunk Guide PS3
The final part of this guide covers levels 4-1 to 4-5.

For levels 1-1 to 1-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 1
For levels 2-1 to 2-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 2
For levels 3-1 to 3-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 3
For levels 4-1 to 4-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 4

Level 4 is set in 'The Circus'.

When you first start level 4-1 you will be greeted with a message explaining that you can now swap between wooden and steel supports by pressing square, but I found this feature is not really that useful and on some of these levels you are forced to use wooden supports anyway.

The only other noticeable change is the addition of steel cable which is stronger than the normal rope used in the swamp levels, however for some of levels in The Circus you will be forced to use normal rope instead of cables.

Level 4-1 : Roll Up, Roll Up!
Girders Used: 33

Quite a simple level to start with. Just build the floor up two pieces at both ends and then flat all the way across and use the cables to support it from above.

Elefunk Level 4-1 Roll up, roll up!

Level 4-2 : High Wire Heights
Girders Used: 39

This time you can only use wooden supports and you have no rope. It can be easy to run out of supports on this level so you need to be quite efficient and use as few pieces as you can. In the pic below the final section consists of four single girder pieces in the shape of a rhombus.

Elefunk Level 4-2 High wire heights

Level 4-3 : The Main Attraction
Girders Used: 122

Now we're onto the really tricky stuff. You have three elephants and each one requires their own bridge across the whole length of the level. Start with the top bridge and get it working (when the other elephants fall and the menu screen comes up you can still watch the first elephant in the background to see if it makes it across alright), then move onto the second bridge and try not to weaken the first bridge too much, then finally build the bottom bridge and again try not to rely too much on the other bridges you've built.

The thing to notice in the picture below is that I've suspended three single floor pieces to use them as supports. There are two above the left of the bottom bridge and one above the right of the middle bridge.

Elefunk Level 4-3 The main attraction

Level 4-4 : Big Top Dipper
Girders Used: 59

The lower part of this level is very straightforward and easy. For the small sections where you just lay two floor pieces you don't even need to place any supports.
The top bridge is the difficult part in this level as you have no supports above the bridge. I used triangle supports to support the bridge from underneath along with a rope either side.

Elefunk Level 4-4 Big Top Dipper

Level 4-5 : The Ringmaster's Demise
Girders Used: 139

The final level, and it's a big one.
The top bridge has nowhere to attach ropes above it, so you're going to have to use the triangle supports all the way across. The only problem with the other two bridges is that there are sections which are too far away from anywhere to hang a rope and so for those parts you will need to connect two ropes together.

That is the end of this guide, I hope some people have found it useful.
If you spot any mistakes, can't get one of my levels to work, or figure out a better way of finishing any of the levels then please leave a comment or send me an email (using the 'contact us' link on the top right of the page).

PAIN Movie Lot?

There is currently a comic con competition on the official playstation website and as it describes the games that will be playable at comic con they mention Pain Movie Lot which hasn't been announced yet:PLAYSTATION(R)Network Showcase

Play new, unreleased titles including:
  • Siren: Blood Curse
  • PixelJunk Eden
  • PAIN Movie Lot
  • Ratchet & Clank®: Quest for Booty
...and much more!

Could this be a new level? or perhaps it's part of the advanced replay editing features that have been hinted at before?

With the Amusement Park on the horizon I'm going to guess that it's the latter but it shouldn't be long until we find out for sure. Comic Con runs from July 24 - July 27.

From the PAIN Blog a couple of months ago:

THitter:

"YouTube uploads integrated into PS3 games.
This would be perfect for Pain."

Travis (PAIN Dev):

@THitter"Remember when I said that sometimes we work on stuff that we can’t mention. Well I already said that we would do a pretty robust replay editor. Your suggestions also about where to put said replays also make sense. This would be one of those times were I said…

GREAT IDEA.

And leave it at that. Mmmmkay. You guys read between the lines pretty well. "

Elefunk Guide - Part 3

Elefunk Guide PS3
The third part of this four-part guide covers levels 3-1 to 3-5.

For levels 1-1 to 1-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 1
For levels 2-1 to 2-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 2
For levels 3-1 to 3-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 3
For levels 4-1 to 4-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 4

Level 3 is set in 'The Swamp Lands' and offers a few new challenges:

The most noticeable change is that we now have to use ropes to build our bridges. Ropes need to be placed carefully in order to gain the most strength from them, they can also be tied together to make longer ropes.

The other main additions to the Swamp Lands is 'floors' and 'obstacles'. Before you even start building supports you will have to choose your route and build the floor pieces. There will sometimes also be obstacles that you will have to avoid by building the floor over them.

Level 3-1 : Smile For The Snappers
Girders Used: 29

First thing to do is to lay your floor pieces. Then start using the ropes to support the floor from above (I coloured the ropes turquoise in the pic to make them more visible). For the long bridge you will need to connect two ropes together to make them long enough to reach the middle of the bridge. If you ever need to delete a rope just press triangle on one end (it should go red) then press triangle on the other end and it will be deleted.

Elefunk Level 3-1 Smile For The Snappers

Level 3-2 : Across The Swamp
Girders Used: 75

This is the level that seems to be causing the most trouble in the whole game. It took me a while to figure out how to do the first section where you can only attach ropes on one side, and in the end I had to use three of the six-girder suports (adding 18 to the total girder count!). I'm sure there must be a more efficient way of doing the first section. The rest of the level is a bit more straightforward, but it is still quite easy to run out of ropes so you have to be careful how you use them.

Elefunk Level 3-2 Across The Swamp

Level 3-3 : Elevate Or Be Eaten
Girders Used: 48

I thought this one was easy, especially after 'Across The Swamp'. Originally I used six of the six-girder supports but when going back to the level to write this guide I was able to alter it slightly and get it down to four.

Elefunk Level 3-3 Elevate Or Be Eaten

Level 3-4 : Hitch A Rope
Girders Used: 136

You have to link all four of the bridges together in this level. The important thing here is to make the top bridge very strong as it will be holding the weight of the other three bridges. The easiest way to do this level is to stack the 6-girder crates vertically to hold all the bridges together, but in trying to find a more efficient method I was able to complete it using only ropes.

The important thing to notice in the pic is that there is a triangle instead of a cross on the second bridge.

Elefunk Level 3-4 Hitch a rope

Level 3-5 : Ups And Downs
Girders Used: 36

This is fairly a simple level, but the last section is a bit tricky. In the picture below, the green line on the last bridge represent a single girder support. I'm sure I have been able to build that last bridge using only four ropes and the single girder piece, but I can't remember exactly how I did it, so for now I have had to use five ropes on that bridge.

Elefunk Guide - Part 2

Elefunk GuideThe first part of my Elefunk Guide went down well, but most people are stuck a bit further on in the game so I am going to try and finish it as quickly as I can.

Here is the Elefunk Guide Part 2

This time instead of the elephants walking across your bridges, they are now dropped from a height and they roll along them. You also have to make sure they collect every Golden Statue along the way. Some of these solutions are a bit messy and will normally end up with the structure collapsing behind your elephant, but your elephants should still make it to the end which is the only thing that matters.

For levels 1-1 to 1-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 1
For levels 2-1 to 2-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 2
For levels 3-1 to 3-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 3
For levels 4-1 to 4-5 go to: Elefunk Guide Part 4

Level 2-1 : Rolling, Rolling, Rolling
Girders Used: 0
(Thanks to gott1rott at gamefaqs for this method)

It's a bit of a cheat this, but it's the best way to finish the level so there's no point in offering a different solution. First you need to remove the dotted triangle in the picture below. Then you rotate it twice and place it where the blue triangle is in the picture.

With this level (and a few others) the elephant may slightly miss one of the golden statues due to the physics varying slightly every time. If that happens just restart and try again, it should get it after a couple of tries.

Elefunk level 2-1 Rolling, rolling, rolling
Level 2-2 : Cross the Cartouche
Girders Used: 17

This one is fairly simple. Two elephants are dropped and the bridges are at an angle, which works in your favour as instead of making sure the structure is strong enough to hold the elephants impact, you can instead concentrate on using the elephants momentum to your advantage.

As you can see in the picture below, you only need to use 5 triangle and the 2 single girders. With a lot of these levels now, the structures I built were right on the limit, so you may miss a statue by a tiny amount of just not quite make it to the end. If that happens just try again and it should work.

Elefunk level 2-2 Cross the cartouche
Level 2-3 : It's a Pharaoh Way
Girders Used: 39

This one is also very simple. You can only use triangles but that shouldn't be a problem, the main problem you might have is the elephant losing all momentum if one of your bridges is very weak. If you follow the picture below then your elephant should very slowly make it across to the exit.

Elefunk level 2-3 It's a pharaoh way
Level 2-4 : Trunks Across the Nile
Girders Used: 76

Another tough one. Each structure has to withstand the force of the elphant falling onto it and also remain rigid enough to keep the elephant rolling in the right direction. The structure I built is right on the limit, changing any of these pieces or even just rotating one will probably cause the whole thing to collapes.

Update: Now uses 76 Girders instead of 85, and actually works this time (hopefully).

Elefunk level 2-4 Trunks across the nile
Level 2-5 : Herd It Thru the Grapevine
Girders Used: 29

I had to go back and get the photos for this level again and in doing so, I was able to reduce the number of girders from 37 to 29. As the elephants fall quite fast, it is not too difficult to get them rolling over to the exit, and you don't need to build any complicated structures. The bottom right section doesn't require any supports, and the upper middle section only requires a single triangle support. The other sections just have 3 supports each.
